As a brand new customer who was supposed to receive step by step assistance through an assigned payroll specialist, we received very little help from them. I found their reports and invoices to be very confusing and when I called with questions, my questions were not answered.

It seemed the "specialist" talked in circles. I left the phone calls feeling even more confused. First time they did our payroll, they had the wrong pay amounts and withholding on employees. There were numerous errors over the months that required time and diligence on my part to correct, and frankly I'm not even sure they were corrected.

It will not surprise me if the Feds or State Dept of Rev doesn't contact us later. After 2 months of paying them to do our payroll and taxes, we decided to cancel our account with them and do our own. Why pay them when we have to double check their work all of the time? Might as well do our own payroll and tax reporting.

BUT THE SCARIEST thing of all... when they mailed us a copy of a corrected W2 and tax paperwork (errors they made) they included copies of records with personal information about 3 other companies, including the names, social security numbers, and wages of their employees!

Makes me wonder what they inadvertently sent to other companies about us. This is an inexcusable personal information breach that could result in ID Theft if placed into the wrong hands!

Reason of review: Bad quality.

Monetary Loss: $250.

Preferred solution: Full refund.

Location: Aliquippa, Pennsylvania

A multi-state client of mine has been with PayChex for a year and a half, and nary a month has gone by where a passed due payroll tax notice has been received, or a notice of underpayment of UI taxes. PayChex even somehow de-registered themselves as my client's payroll agent in one state, so could not file the withholding and UI taxes - but said nothing about it and left them unpaid.

My client learned of the problem when a large passed due notice arrived, and PayChex advised her that they could not address the issue as my client had dropped them as their representative for that particular state (which she had not done). Then there was the time when the CSR assigned to my client left PayChex, and my client was never notified. A new CSR was not assigned for six weeks - meanwhile, emails and voice mails to the CSR who left went into a black hole - the person's email address and voice mail were left active, but either not monitored or not acted upon.

Attempts to reach a CSR manager were unsuccessful - it took contacting the PayChex sales rep and threatening to cancel the account to fix the problem. I never thought I'd find a payroll company I dislike more than ADP, but PayChex has earned that distinction.
